FBI Informant Claimed Epstein Was Israeli Spy, Document Shows

confidential FBI informant claimed to have become convinced that disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein was operating as an agent for Israeli intelligence, according to a newly released government document included in millions of pages disclosed last week by the U.S. Justice Department.
The record is based on information provided by a confidential human source (CHS) and forms part of a broader release tied to federal investigations into Epstein and his network.
According to the document, the informant alleged that Epstein’s longtime attorney, Alan Dershowitz, told then–U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida Alex Acosta that Epstein “belonged to both U.S. and allied intelligence services.”
The CHS claimed to have listened to and taken notes on phone calls between Epstein and Dershowitz. The document states that, following these calls, Israel’s intelligence agency Mossad allegedly contacted Dershowitz to conduct debriefings related to Epstein.
“These assertions are presented as claims by the informant and are not independently corroborated in the document,” the record notes.
Relationship with Ehud Barak and Alan Dershowitz
The informant further alleged that Epstein had a close personal relationship with former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak and claimed Epstein had been “trained as a spy under him.”
Within this context, the document references Israeli political rivalries, noting—without elaboration—that Barak allegedly believed current Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was a criminal. The informant stated that these regional and political dynamics contributed to their belief that Epstein was a “co-opted Mossad agent.”
The document contains an annotation instructing readers to “see previous reporting,” though it does not specify which reports are being referenced.
The CHS also attributed additional statements to Dershowitz, including a remark in which he allegedly said that “if he were young again, he would be holding a stun gun as an Israeli Intelligence (Mossad) agent.”
Based on these alleged comments, the informant concluded that Dershowitz himself had been “co-opted by Mossad and subscribed to their mission.” The document does not provide evidence beyond the informant’s account to substantiate this claim.
Epstein’s criminal case and death
The Epstein-related document is part of a sweeping Justice Department disclosure that mentions numerous prominent figures from political, legal, and financial circles. The release has renewed scrutiny of Epstein’s relationships and the circumstances surrounding earlier prosecutorial decisions.
Epstein was arrested in 2019 on federal sex trafficking charges and died later that year in a Manhattan jail cell while awaiting trial. Authorities ruled his death a suicide.
Previously, in 2008, Epstein pleaded guilty in Florida to procuring a minor for prostitution under a plea deal approved by then–U.S. Attorney Alex Acosta, an agreement that has been widely criticized as unusually lenient.
Victims have long alleged that Epstein operated a far-reaching sex trafficking network involving members of the wealthy and politically powerful elite—allegations that continue to shape public and legal scrutiny of the case.
