Seems like there is no respite for Saudi Arabia. The Gulf kingdom claimed on Monday that it had “detected” an “advanced” cyber-attack targeting the government’s different agencies. The kingdom’s National Cyber Security Center, which is affiliated to the Interior Ministry said the attack involved the use of “PowerShell control software.”

Saudi Arabia is already swamped in a wide range of issues across the region that are threatening the country internally as well as externally. The claim of the cyber-attack is the latest in a rapidly evolving situation in and around the kingdom.

According to the security center’s statement, “relevant state agencies” had been informed and several recommendations were issued to take counter measures.

“The Interior Ministry has foiled many organized cyber-attacks in the past targeting various [Saudi] government agencies and vital installations,” the statement read.

It added: “Internal warnings allowed us to thwart these attacks, all of which ultimately failed to achieve their objectives.”

Saudi Arabia Cyber Security Center is tasked with assessing electronic threats to the kingdom and responding to perceived cyber-attacks on the national level.
