alestinian Education Ministry has reported a devastating toll on Palestinian students since the start of Israeli attacks on Gaza on October 7, 2023. According to the ministry, at least 4,119 Palestinian school students have lost their lives, and a staggering 7,536 others have been injured in the ongoing conflict.

In a press statement on Tuesday, the ministry disclosed that the casualties extended beyond Gaza, with the Israeli army causing the death of 37 school students and injuring 282 others in the occupied West Bank during the same period.

The impact on education has been severe, with 221 teachers and educational staff losing their lives, and 703 others sustaining injuries in Gaza alone. The conflict has also taken a toll on educational infrastructure, with 343 schools across Gaza being damaged by Israeli bombings. Additionally, 38 schools in the West Bank suffered damage during the ongoing hostilities.

A human tragedy

The Palestinian Education Ministry emphasized that these grim statistics represent a human tragedy and a dire situation for the future of education in the region. The international community has been called upon to address the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Palestinian territories and take immediate steps to end the violence.

Israel’s military actions have been widely criticized, with accusations of disproportionate use of force and causing civilian casualties. The conflict has led to a significant loss of life, particularly among civilians, including women and children.

As the conflict persists, efforts to find a diplomatic resolution and bring about a lasting ceasefire remain crucial. The Palestinian Ministry of Education continues to advocate for international intervention to protect the lives of students and educators and to ensure the right to education for Palestinian children.

A devastating impact

The devastating impact on the education sector, coupled with the loss of innocent lives, underscores the urgent need for a peaceful resolution to the longstanding Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The international community faces renewed calls to engage in diplomatic efforts aimed at bringing an end to the violence and establishing conditions for a stable and secure future in the region.

The Palestinian Health Ministry reported a devastating toll from the Israeli onslaught on Gaza, revealing that the deaths of Palestinians have surged to 21,978 over the nearly three-month-long offensive. Ashraf al-Qidra, the ministry’s spokesman, issued the statement on Monday, marking the 87th day of Israel’s deadly campaign in Gaza.

Al-Qidra highlighted that the number of injuries in Gaza has climbed to 57,697, with nearly 70% of them being women and children. Shockingly, 326 medical staff lost their lives, and the Israeli army destroyed 104 ambulances while damaging 150 health centers across the besieged Gaza Strip. The dire situation has prompted urgent calls for international aid and medical support, with medical supplies in Gaza critically depleted due to the ongoing blockade imposed by Israel.
