Zohran Kwame Mamdani, the Democratic Party candidate and a Ugandan-born American politician of Indian descent, won the New York mayoral election, defeating independent candidate Andrew Cuomo. Mamdani’s victory was not unexpected, as polls had placed him ahead of the other candidates months ago.
The polls also alarmed the opposition, who poured millions of dollars into Cuomo’s campaign to defeat Mamdani. Recall how Mamdani was depicted as the perpetrator of the September 11 attack on the World Trade Center or how Donald Trump threatened to cut New York City’s budget. Elon Musk even used his X account to demonize the Muslim candidate. However, the massive black propaganda campaign failed, and Mamdani became the new mayor.
As expected, the anti-Mamdani Zionist campaign was led by billionaires such as Bill Ackman, influencers like Laura Loomer, and media outlets like the New York Post, all of whom worked hard to ensure Mamdani’s loss. Their opposition is not only political but also ideological.
Maintained and promoted by lobbies and businesspeople alike, Zionism has been one of the most influential forces in U.S. politics. Organizations like AIPAC invest in politicians and successfully elect candidates. AIPAC recently claimed that 95% of the candidates it supported won the most recent U.S. elections. Experience has shown that politicians without AIPAC’s endorsement rarely win.
Zionist money could not help much
Relying on their donations, Zionists believed they could prevent a Muslim politician from becoming the mayor of New York City. However, the result was not as they expected. This time, donations worth millions of dollars reaped only defeat.
Since Zionists supported the rival candidate, Mamdani’s victory was also a defeat for them. They are obviously worried not only about Mamdani’s victory, but also about the changing course of American politics. Zionists do not want the increasing Muslim impact on U.S. politics. Moreover, Mamdani’s victory may foreshadow future losses.
Since the beginning of the Gaza genocide, as has been the case elsewhere in the world, the American people’s perception of Israel and its supporters has changed for the worse. This is a positive change, as Israel is the perpetrator of a genocide yet continues to play the victim. Currently, most Americans favor Palestine over Israel due to Israel’s brutality. Christian Zionists are not the main source of sympathy for Israel in America. In fact, there are reports of people leaving churches and criticizing priests who defend Israel’s crimes.
American people are questioning U.S.-Israeli alliance
Clearly, a rift has emerged from debates over U.S. support for Israel. More and more, the American people are questioning the U.S.-Israeli alliance and irrevocable grants to Israel. Influential conservatives such as Tucker Carlson, Candace Owens, Dan Bilzerian, and Nick Fuentes, among many others, criticize U.S. politicians and the government for their unconditional support of Israel. Since American youth idolize and trust these figures, their voting choices will most likely go against the Zionist lobby’s expectations.
Zohran Mamdani, who is not the preferred candidate of nationalists parting ways with MAGA (e.g., Tucker Carlson), may not be a one-time exception that upsets pro-Israeli groups. People are now more aware of U.S. politics and lobbies, and of who supports whom and how much politicians receive in donations from lobby groups. While supporting a Muslim candidate was previously seen as abnormal and chanting “Israel first” was normal, everything has recently changed by 180 degrees. As we can see, New Yorkers no longer mind having a Muslim mayor.
Moreover, spending millions of dollars on election campaigns does not sway people’s will; it backfires. Also, voters are no longer furious when a candidate does not promise to visit Israel after winning.

The perception of Muslims and Gaza
Moreover, if a Muslim wins the mayoral elections in one of the world’s richest cities, it means that the perception of Muslims has changed for the better. Gaza certainly plays a significant role in shaping people’s views. Therefore, it is not wrong to say that Mamdani owes some of his success to Gaza and its people.
The genocide in Gaza has awakened Americans and others and made them see that Israelis are brutal and will kill even babies. Realizing this, people have questioned why Washington acts as Israel’s protector and becomes complicit in genocide. They have criticized pro-Israel policies and America First foreign policy, and they are now trying to influence American politics, which is still largely controlled by Zionist groups.
We can expect pro-Israel setbacks in the upcoming congressional elections. If pro-Israel politicians lose, the American government’s attitude toward Israel will change. Mamdani is not the first Muslim to win despite opposition from malicious power centers, but, as a Muslim, he may accelerate the change taking place in the Islamophobic political spectrum.
Mamdani defeated Andrew Cuomo, Donald Trump, Elon Musk, Bill Ackman, Laura Loomer, pro-Israel social media, AIPAC, and many other rivals who competed with their money, influence, and political power. This victory will certainly inspire new challengers and cause the power of pro-Israel groups and lobbies to decline.
